Portion Sizes

Wedding cake servings are traditionally 1″x 1″ (2.5 cm x 2.5cm) for fruit cake and 1″ x 2″ (2.5 cm x 5cm) for sponge. ┬áIf you intend to serve your Wedding Cake as a dessert then bigger pieces will be cut and therefore a larger cake may be required. Belgian chocolate wedding cakes are especially suitable to serve as a dessert.

Some venues do not allow you to serve the wedding cake as a dessert, so check with your wedding coordinator first.

The chart below shows the average number of servings you can expect to cut from a sponge cake, however this is only a guide and will vary according to the person cutting the cake.
